Few dementia patients in Nebraska have feeding tubes

The rate of insertion of feeding tubes among nursing home residents with advance dementia varies significantly from state to state.

In 2000-01, the latest period for which data is available, the national average was 54 new tubes inserted for every 1,000 such patients.

Insertion rates ranged from 2 per 1,000 in Utah to 114 in Louisiana.
