There's no better way to stay committed to your health through the holiday season than to burn calories before you even eat them. This Saturday, choose between several Thanksgiving-themed walk/run events around the state. Others are on the holiday. Goat and Gobbler
The 10- and 3-mile races will feature a “Thanksgiving/mountain” themed costume contest complete with prizes for the best dressed. Proceeds from the event will go toward an Ibex Leadership School outreach program. Students will spend six weeks in Nicaragua working with kids in the community and helping with food distributions.
When: 9 a.m. Saturday
Where: Lifegate Church at near 155th and West Dodge Streets
Cost: $35 (10-mile) and $25 (3-mile)
Turkey Trot 2012 Family Fun Run
Hosted by Hauser Chiropractic, this 5K run/walk and 1 mile fun run will benefit Boys Town. There will be a raffle.
When: 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Race day registration starts at 7:45 a.m.
Where: Hauser Chiropractic, near 144th and Fort Streets
Cost: $30 (5-mile) and $15 (1-mile fun run)
Thanksgiving Fun Run
Choose between a 2-mile, 4-mile and 6-mile course in this non-competitive event.
When: 9 a.m. November 22
Where: Lake Zorinsky boat ramp
Freeze your Giblets Turkey Trot
The 3-mile run/walk will benefit the Ralston chapter of Junior Chamber International. Funds will go to the organization's community service projects, leadership training and more.
When: 9 a.m. Saturday
Where: 77th and Main Streets in downtown Ralston
Frozen Turkey Trot in Hastings
The Hastings YMCA is inviting everyone, regardless of weather, to enjoy a 5K (3.1 mile) trot around Lake Hastings. Prizes will be awarded for the top 10 male and female finishers, and include items needed for a Thanksgiving feast — a frozen turkey, sack of potatoes, pumpkin pie fixins, etc.
When: 8 a.m. Saturday
Where: Hastings YMCA, 18th Street location
Fremont Family YMCA Turkey Trot
Choose between a 2-mile or 5-mile run, or a 1-mile family walk. The course has been certified, so participants will have be able to get profesionally timed.
When: November 22, 8:30 a.m. (Register by Tuesday, Nov. 20.)
Where: Fremont Family YMCA, near N. Clamar and E. Military Avenues
Cost: $25 (2 and 5 mile). One mile walk is free.
Joslyn Castle Turkey Trot 5K
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Joslyn Castle
When: 9:00 a.m. November 22.
Where: Turner Park at Midtown Crossing
Cost: $35 through November 21. $40 on race day.
