This morning's bitingly cold weather was just a "warmup" for the evening commute.
Bryon Miller, meterologist with the National Weather Service, said the temperature and windchill are forecast to be lower during this evening than was the case this morning.
During tonight's commute, the air temperature is expected to be around 0 degrees and the windchill between 15 degrees below zero and 20 degrees below zero, he said.
During most of this morning's commute, the temperature was about 7 degrees and the windchill was about 10 degrees below zero, Miller said.
Tonight could bring the coldest night of winter. Miller said temperatures could drop to around 5 degrees below zero. So far, the lowest temperature of the year was 1 degree below zero on the morning of Dec. 26.
The forecasted warmup is still coming, but has been slowed a little by the refrigerating effect of the snow, Miller said.
A look at forecasted highs:
• Friday: Low to mid 20s;
•Saturday and Sunday: Upper 30s;
• Monday-Wednesday: Mid 40s.
