Runners looking for romance can get a head start this year. The Couples Therapy 8K is Sunday afternoon.
“It's unique and a little bit different and around Valentine's Day,” said Ande Jorgenson, one of the event organizers and co-owner of the Red Dirt Running Company in west Omaha.
He said he is expecting about 75 runners. Not everyone who signs up is part of a pair. In fact, Jorgenson said more singles are signed up so far.
The race is an 8K, or about five miles. It begins behind Red Dirt Running Company, at 17660 Wright Street. The route loops around Zorinsky Lake. Parts of the route are paved, though runners will also take some paths off the trail.
Participants will receive a drawstring bag and coffee mug, as well as pizza and adult beverages for those of age after the race. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of four divisions – three pairs divisions and one individual division. Prizes include winter apparel from Mizuno, gift cards and water bottles. People that make up a couple each have to run the full distance, and their times will be combined.
Registration is $35 per person. Sign up online and use the code “REDHEART” for $10 off. You can also sign up at the Red Dirty Running Company the day of the event. For more information, click here.
